Physical Education
At Doxey Academy we believe that a high-quality PE curriculum inspires children to succeed and excel in physically demanding activities and competitive sports. We aim to teach our pupils a range of skills in different areas of sport and how to have a healthy lifestyle to ensure they have the best outcomes in their lives as they grow older. We will also help our pupils to build important life skills such as having good self-esteem, being motivated to be the best they can be and to have confidence in their ability when competing against others. We wish to support our pupils’ health and fitness and provide them with a range of opportunities to become physically confident in the future and outside of the school community.
It is our aim to inspire our pupils to be involved in competitive sport to help give them the opportunities to aim to be the best and to aspire to carry on this sport in later life. These character traits will support our pupils as they enter the wider world and will reduce future barriers to participation. We want the pupils at Doxey Academy to dream about being world-class sportsmen and sportswomen in the future.

By engaging in physical activities, children learn the importance of regular exercise and healthy habits, laying the foundation for lifelong well-being. Group activities and team sports in PE teach children to work collaboratively, communicate effectively, and value the contributions of others. Children learn to respect rules, accept outcomes (winning or losing gracefully), and appreciate different people’s abilities. Physical activity is a proven method for reducing stress and anxiety, helping children manage their emotions more effectively and overcoming challenges and learning from failures in PE fosters resilience and perseverance.
We offer a wide range of sports and physical activities, from football and basketball to cricket, rugby, and golf. This broadens pupil’s horizons and connects them with the wider world. By offering a wide range we are giving the pupils the opportunity to see which sports they enjoy or have skills in so they can pursue this later in life. During their PE lessons, we share with pupils people who have achieved success in this sporting area to inspire them to think about whether they could pursue this path in the future.
